The world is mourning the loss of Superman but the government fears that another like him could mean harm rather than good. So they pull together some of the baddest villains in lock up to form the Suicide Squad. Not everything goes to plan as one of them turns rogue and plans to take over the world.

This week, we offer not one but TWO Film Studies podcasts for Suicide Squad. The first has Mean Mark joined by Tex and special guest Ella as they review DC’s latest offering. The second features Sean Taylor joined by Midcard Moh going into detail about the movie as well as trailers released at ComicCon.

Oh wait, I forgot about the girly-girl museum “scientist” who likes to threaten to sue people, the back-woods Sheriff who forgets the “feminine napkins”, the millionaire croc hunter who believes that crocs are mythical creatures and has a helicopter with infinite gas, and the gaming and wildlife officer who looks either bored to be in the movie or just waiting to fire his agent. But this was the 1990s and therefore, it was all thrown away for a ridiculous, over-the-top, and quasi-racist movie written good ol’ Meathead himself, Rob Reiner. North tells the tale of a young, rich, white boy who is sick of family (who give him everything) and his friends (who idolize him) and starts out on a world-wide search for a new home. How could it go wrong? Well if Dan Akroyd as a Texan, Kathy Bates in brown face, and that one guy from Die Hard as an Amishman isn’t enough . . . well, I don’t know what is.
